Cruising Rio?

Planning on attending the 2016 Olympics in Rio? Local hotels might not be the only place visitors will be staying. If two Miami entrepreneurs succeed, cruise ships may fit the bill – serving as floating hotels.
Joyce Landry and Josephine Kling, owners of Landry & Kling in Miami, were part of Brazil’s proposal to the International Olympic Committee with a plan for cruise ships to complement the city’s lodging availability. Both women have a background in the travel and cruise industry. In 1982, they began their firm, which plans and manages meetings, corporate events, and charters on cruise ships.
The comapny proposed that cruise ships would also be more interested in chartering ships to Rio if the country were successful in landing the Olympics. Currently, several cruise lines offer Rio as a destination as part of trips from other countries, but Kling and Landry believe cruise lines will be hoping to capitalize on the city’s increased notoriety.
“We provided letters of interest saying that cruise lines would be interested in charters if Rio were to win,” Landry told the Miami Herald.
As the Olympics get closer, we’ll stay on top of this and see what develops. Would you be interested in a Rio cruise?
